The elliptical shaped staircases in this elite family home in London are designed perfectly to create not only a fascinating feature but to make the most of the available space in the house.
The modern monochrome finish of these staircases ensure a striking & sophisticated style that is carried throughout the rest of the house. The treads & handrails have been French polished to a very dark, almost black shade which is contrasted beautifully with the white strings, risers & spindles.
These hand crafted staircases are the perfect blend of modern & classical combined - the simple closed inner strings have added character with the additional mouldings following the contour of the strings while the railing running up the top of the string has elegant ogee moulds on both sides.
The classic painted timber spindles have a contemporary edge with their very simple square profile while the handrails have a lovely detailed profile & starting volute at the ground floor.
The ellipse shape of the stairs continues around the well opening linking each of the staircases together with a continuous flow of handrails & strings highlighted by the sweeping mouldings following the contours right from the bottom to the top. In contrast the wall strings have been kept square & simple with no skirting profile.
